A Summer Wedding at the Harvest Gardens

08.08.18 was THE most popular date for weddings this summer. I could have booked it 10x over and I got to spend it photographing these two amazing people as they said I DO at the Harvest Gardens in Red Deer. The one part of photographing weddings I just adore is that I getting to know the families and close friends of the couples that I am privileged to work with. We get to see families in such an intimate setting and that will never get lost on me. Family is everything.

Matt and Rikki opted for a first look. They are some of the most intimate images you will have on your wedding day. Just you and your spouse as they see each other for the first time. Getting to embrace each other. Spending a few moments just the two of you. Sometimes there are tears of joy and sometimes there is the “WOW” look. Each couple reacts differently. After the first look, we went straight to portraits and it was a blast. Rikki and Matt chose a great group of people to stand up with them.

As I wrote this blog post and reflected on the day. I started to write about all the beautiful details and how I adore their wedding style or how smokey it was from the BC forest fires and how amazing these two are together. All of that is true but what kept sticking out in my mind was Rikki’s dad’s speech. After the main part of his speech was done, he looked at the newly weds and gave them some great advice. He said that they are going to have bumps in the road but he wants them to remember exactly how they feel, right here, on their wedding day and bottle it up. When times get tough, take it out and remember how they felt on their wedding day. Those aren’t his exact words but you get the idea 🙂 It really resonated with me. It’s something my dad would have said. It’s how great marriages are built.
